Superfast West Yorkshire – Your five minute guide
Superfast West Yorkshire aims to improve both the access to and take up of superfast broadband in our intervention area. Funded by the five local authorities (Leeds, Wakefield, Kirklees, Calderdale and Bradford), BDUK and the EU, the project aims to increase better broadband to 97% of the intervention area in West Yorkshire.
What does superfast broadband mean?
Super-fast broadband connections enable users to surf the internet, download music & video and stream television at speeds that are massively higher than most internet users. Rather than broadband being delivered through the copper route, the new, faster broadband speeds are delivered by fibre optic cabling.
What are the benefits?
There are a number of benefits to both residents and businesses in your area.
- Faster more reliable broadband
- Instant sharing of photos and videos
- Stream videos with no more buffering
- Fans of on-demand TV can enjoy their favourite shows on the BBC iPlayer, as well as rival services from ITV and Channel 4, smoothly and without interruption.
How will it affect my area?
A number of your residents will be able to access faster broadband and in many cases superfast broadband.
The most important bit: Both residents and businesses who are interested in upgrading need to contact their ISP to upgrade to superfast broadband as it does not happen automatically. You do not have to stay with the same ISP it is wise to shop around for the best deal.
If your residents/businesses have not got access to superfast broadband just yet, please ask them to register their interest at www.superfastwestyorkshire.co.uk and they will then receive an e-alert when it comes to the area.
If residents or businesses have any questions about the roll out please email our team at firstname.lastname@example.org
